Abstract

The article investigates the performances “Massa Ré” by Elilson and "Marcha a ré” by Teatro da Vertigem and Nuno Ramos in the light of Walter Benjamin's thought. Having as a central focus the notions of temporality and city for the author, the aim is to understand how the works can be read beyond a denunciation of the setback that Brazil would experience under extreme right-wing governments (a recurring interpretation to artists and critics of both works). With Benjamin, the gesture of walking backwards loses its negative connotation and becomes a test to which the artists themselves submit themselves in order to understand and get used to other space-time vectors.
